Ai Person-centred care is a philosophy of providing care that is centred around the person, and not just their health needs. We are all individual, no two people are the same hence it is not appropriate to say that because two people have dementia — that they both have the same care and support needs. The values which one person feels are important in their life may not be so to another.

Religious - factors such as attending church or mosque or visits from their local religious leaders, being able to celebrate religious celebrations, having a quiet place to pray etc Social - factors such as opportunities to be with others, to communicate with others, to share in a group experience.
Political - factors such as being involved and having a say in what is happening or should happen in their environment, having their opinions respected etc. Maslow's hierarchy of needs Maslow constructed a theory called the Hierarchy of Needs- he explained that every human being requires certain basic needs to be met before they can approach the next level.

Feeling valued as an individual is vital to increasing self-esteem and confidence, and making people feel good about themselves. After all, it is very hard to feel good about yourself, if you don't believe that anyone else thinks much of you.
Understanding identity issues is an important step in promoting well-being. Health and social care workers can adopt a range of methods to promote service users' identity, self-image and self-esteem and many services have made progress in recognising and respecting the identity of service users.
If an individual is able to live in a way that protects their identity and all the aspects of their life that contributes to their understanding of who they are, they are likely to have a good sense of self! Active Participation 'Active participation is an approach that enables individuals to be included in their care and have a greater say in how they live their life in ways that matter to them.
